Air-o-cell is a simple to use tool for rapid collection of a wide range of airbourne particulate:
- Bioaerosols: mould spores, pollen, insect parts, and skin cell fragments
- Fibres: Asbestos, fiberglass, cellulose, clothing fibres, and synthetics
- Inorgranic Particulate: Ceramic, fly ash, copy toner, oil droplets, and paint
- Other opaque particulates: Products of combustion, rust, and salts
The Air-o-cell is a unique air sampling cassette specifically designed for the rapid collection of a wide range of airbourne aerosoles, including mould spores, pollen, insects parts, skin cell fragments, fibres (e.g. asbestos, fibreglass, cellulose, clothing fibres, etc.) and inorganic particulate (e.g. ceramic, fly ask, copy toner, etc.) The Air-o-cell collects both viable and non-viable sample specimens, providing a much wider overview of potential allergens and contaminants rather than conventional sampling techniques.
The Air-o-cell operates upon the principle of inertial impaction. Particulate filled air is accelerated as it is drawn through the cassettes tapered inlet slit and directed towards a small slide containing the collection media, where the particles become collected and the air flow continues out the exit orifice. The adhesive nature of the collection media prevents the collected particles from blurring or being washed off during the laboratory staining process, and eliminates sample loss from movement during handle and shipment.
After sampling is completed, the cassettes are sent to a laboratory, where the slides are removed and put under a direct microscopic analysis that is performed immediately after. The collection media is compatible with a wide range of biological stains refractive index oils, allowing a direct analysis of organic and inorganic particulates.
The Air-o-cell can be used with any off the shelf area sampling pump capable of drawing 15LPM open flow. The small size makes the Air-o-cell unit suitable for use in confined or restrictive spaces.
