Makita Impact Driver
Introducing the 18V Brushless Impact Driver (DTD172Z) by Makita. This driver is perfect for driving screws into wood or metal and has 4-stage speed selection and a 4-stage mode selection. These 4 speed stages help select the rotations per minute and impacts per minute and are listed below:

  • Soft – up to 1100 RPM with 1100 IPM
  • Medium – up to 2100 RPM with 2600 IPM
  • Hard – up to 3200 RPM with 3600 IPM
  • Max – up to 3600 RPM with 3800 IPM

Additionally, the 4 stage assist modes are useful when applying them in certain contexts.

Wood Mode
This mode is designed to drive screws into wood. This initially starts with low torque & speed to gain stability as you establish the screw but transitions to max power as the screw stabilises, making for a steady but fast and efficient driving.

Bolt Mode
This mode is useful for when tightening or loosening bolts. This mode is energy efficient as it can sense when you are loosening a bolt, and applies its max power (at the current setting) when initially loosening, but as the bolt/nut becomes free of pressure resistance, the power is cut to a minimal level to finish the job.

T Mode -1
This mode is for driving screws into thin sheet metal. It cuts power after a few impacts and this is done to avoid stripping the screw. This was designed knowing that thin sheet metal initial only needs high power levels in the first moments of driving the screw. Over applying power once the screw is in, may strip the head. This T mode avoids that.

T Mode – 2
This mode is for driving screws into ticker metal. It applies steady high power at the start but transitions to a slower power setting as the screw/bolt is tightening.

Additional Features:

  • Reduced head size for driving screws into locations (horizontal surfaces) that are close to a wall (vertical surface) or vice versa.
  • Customisable button – for quick transition between two desired modes
  • Job light – for increased visibility when operating tool
  • Cordless – Operates of 18V Makita Batteries
